Part 3 of 3 uhm . . . now 4 (& the louder, funkier, inner city cousin of the series)

The edition holds a particular appeal for me in that it was never part of the actual series – but an add-on once Mr. Bärtsch & his esteemed Ronin released Awase. Then it was me scrambling to cobble together a mix worthy of the previous 2 editions, while maintaining an ether-jazz-ish hold on the overall sound generated within the new trio.

The mixological process ultimately birthed a 4th installment . . . which will join the fray in a month or so.

DUO is the first collaborative project from minimal composer France Jobin and Richard Chartier. 

DUO creates an “intemporelle“ and pervading atmosphere, where sounds intermingle within an intricate and delicate system delineated by spatial and temporal boundaries.

‘Faintly Recollected’ is a long form piece by Danny Norbury and Ian Hawgood.

‘A beautiful and somber long form neo-classical piece.’ This Is Darkness 

‘The music is melancholy, thoughtful and slow.  Every note takes its time.  Danny Norbury‘s cello is in turn mournful and thankful.  One wonders if the album is inspired by loss.  But then the chimes enter – first at the quarter mark and again at the half.  These have a soothing effect, implying deep spirituality that is not restricted to any particular religion.  When they first leave, they are missed; when they are gone again, their memory is cherished all the more, because the listener was not sure they would visit a second time.  Perhaps this is how it is with memories, embraced all the more if they have been faintly recollected.  The final third offers an even deeper experience of peace, as a subtle drone inhabits the sonic scenery, allowing the other elements to fade.  This combination allows for the softest possible landing, a consolation of sorts, a reminder of the beauty that is as opposed to the beauty that was.  Both have value, but when one fades, the other is an unexpected blessing.’ Richard Allen (A Closer Listen)

‘As the work progresses it moves into a very lush work of violin sounds, multiple ones, together and intertwined, of great sadness and desolate beauty. It no longer sounds the way it opened, which was sparse and austere. Over the course of thirty-three minutes it expanded and yet stayed quiet and melancholic. Ambient & Glitch | 79:05

A mix to go with an iPad cover I made last year using ‘Vectornater’ & ‘Paper by 53’. It’s a project built around the construct of long, deep sound installations, ghosting & extended segue/compositional editing 😉.

Source material was drawn from the various albums featured on the blog (I feature that which intrigues me & make notes as I post). As per usual, there was more material cached than I could possibly use . . . I find the best mixes are those where the cutting floor is filled with segued casualties.

So I give you, the general shape & outline of what should resemble an ambient mix collective (bleeding onto/into dark causticity glitchy, micro-sonic cacophony @ select moments) with dark/light contrasts, long-fades & a bit of noise & clatter near the end;
