…finally, the David Cross (King Crimson) album ‘Starless Starlight’ is coming out on Noisy Records. This is grown from the musical theme featured on ‘Starless’ by King Crimson crafted into eight atmospheric instrumental pieces with some incredibly beautiful violin playing from David. Co-produced by Tony, this album is already gaining a lot of interest around the industry.

–from BigO Magazine

Electronic pioneer Edgar Frose (1944-2015) of Tangerine Dream passed last week. May you rest in peace, Edgar and…thanks for the great music!

German artist and electronic music pioneer Edgar Froese, best known for founding the electronic music group Tangerine Dream, died on January 20 in Vienna of a plumonary embolism. He was 70. Among his works, in 1975, Froese released Epsilon In Malaysian Pale, a Mellotron-based piece inspired by a visit to a Malaysian jungle. Just before his death, Froese completed work on his 500-page autobiography, Tangerine Dream – Force Majeure – 1967 – 2014. Tangerine Dream’s website posted: “The sadness in our hearts is immense. Edgar once said: ‘There is no death, there is just a change of our cosmic address.’ Edgar, this is a little comfort to us.”

Warsaw 1997 [Tangerine Tree, Volume 20, 1CD]
Live at the Sala Kongresowa Warsaw, Poland; June 13, 1997. Very good FM broadcast.

Thanks to everyone involved; and to tadreamer62 for sharing the show at Dime.

Tangerine Dream’s gig in June 1997 was the last concert of their European tour in spring 1997. The first set of that show (the so-called ‘Vintage Set’, consisting of older compositions for the most part) was broadcast by the Polish FM radio. A remastered version of excellent quality of this broadcast can be heard on Tangerine Tree Volume 20: Warsaw 1997. The track list is slightly different to the set that was recorded during the London concert in November 1997 and released officially as Valentine Wheels. Thus, the Warsaw record is a nice counterpart to the album, Tournado, which features the second set (the ‘Modern Set’) of the tour, as recorded in Zabrze in April 1997. – voices-in-the-net.de

…and, from her blog:

What should I do about Youtube?

by Zoe Keating

My Google Youtube rep contacted me the other day. They were nice and took time to explain everything clearly to me, but the message was firm: I have to decide. I need to sign on to the new Youtube music services agreement or I will have my Youtube channel blocked.

This new music service agreement covers my Content ID account and it includes mandatory participation in Youtube’s new subscription streaming service, called Music Key, along with all that participation entails. Here are some of the terms I have problems with:

1) All of my catalog must be included in both the free and premium music service. Even if I don’t deliver all my music, because I’m a music partner, anything that a 3rd party uploads with my info in the description will be automatically included in the music service too….(more)

New…on Free Floating

Mmm...very nice – a beautifully constructed long-form composition! And, by ‘long-form’, I do not mean a looped track that merely repeats upon itself…but a wonderfully crafted tone-poem – I chopped it into 2 twenty-five minute sections & put it on my phone.

(Note2Self: not everything that comes across my ambient desk needs to be shoe-horned into a mix ;- D )

I bought it brand new on vinyl almost as soon as it was released after hearing it on W-BGO Jazz FM

I was re-reading the latest (Jan 13, 2015) Marsen Jules newsletter & realized that there was a free download Christmas compilation (of non-Christmas sounding, cool ambient tracks) included in the text…so here it is – including a track, by Jules’ new band, Godot:
