“Senja” is an electronic ambient music EP composed during the winter months far north in the Arctic Circle. The album was produced using field recordings, synthesizers and samples inspired by the story of Kråkeslottet, an old fishing plant transformed in a cultural hub in the island of Senja, Norway.

I know, it’s only Chamber Music (but I LIKE it!)

Classical derivatives played against chamber, experimental post-rock & a bit of noisy, serendipitous din.
Our #classical mixes tend to run a bit longer due to
…..a) the lengths of compositions and,
…..b) the fact that we don’t make too many of them (versus #ambient)

01 Thomas Zehetmair – Partita for Violin Solo No. 3 in E Major, BWV 1006 – 5. Bourrée
02 Erkki-Sven Tüür & the Signum Quartett – Fata Morgana
03 Kronos Quartet – Tallis; Spem In Alium
04 Amsterdam Sinfonietta – Mansurian Quasi parlando for Violoncello &String Orchestra
05 Yo Yo Ma – Kodály; Cello Sonata, Op. 8 – 1. Allegro Maestoso Ma Appasionato
06 The Metropole Orchestra – Midnight Blue (live)
……(composers: Robert Fripp, Andrew Keeling & David Singleton)
07 Markus Reuter & the Matangi Quartet – Zauberberg
08 The Signum Quartett & Erkki-Sven Tüür– String Quartet No. 2 “Lost Prayers”
09 King Crimson – Providence

Release date: 02.12.2021 | ECM 2702 | Review on Presto Jazz

With Uma Elmo, his fifth album as a leader for ECM, Danish guitarist Jakob Bro presents a new trio featuring Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen and Spanish drummer Jorge Rossy. Astonishingly, given the trio’s musical synergy, the first time these three musicians ever performed together was for the album’s sessions at the Swiss Radio studio in Lugano, with ECM founder Manfred Eicher producing. Uma Elmo reaffirms the observation about Bro’s work by London Jazz News that “there is no hurry to this music, but there is great depth.” Among the album’s highlights is opener “Reconstructing a Dream,” a darkly lyrical reverie. “To Stanko” is Bro’s hushed tribute to the late, great Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stanko, who featured the guitarist in his quintet for the ECM album Dark Eyes. Another homage to a late elder is “Music for Black Pigeons,” which was given its evocative title by saxophone sage Lee Konitz. Listeners will recognize Henriksen’s whispering, poetic sound from his 2008 ECM album Cartography, as well as his collaborations for the label with Trio Mediaeval and Tigran Hamasyan. Rossy is well known to jazz fans on both sides of the Atlantic, particularly for his decade-plus tenure in Brad Mehldau’s career-making first trio. As for the leader, DownBeat aptly noted in its review of his previous ECM album, Bay of Rainbows, that “Bro’s guitar is luminous… his music both hypnotic and dramatic.”

Engineering staff @ Ambient Landscape:
“We’ve ravished this album over the past 4-5 months & used EVERY track on a mix project!”
__________________________________________________________________

Hey! I’ve performed these pieces with an electric guitar, amp & pedals/electronics, at my home studio. I tend to record pretty often; sometimes I’m looking for new sonorities/noise, sometimes digging into textural motion & (errrm) “events/gestures”, sometimes I think I’m writing, sometimes I’m just practicing my instruments.

If I begin recording, it’s almost always because i feel a need to simply play with no boundaries (other than the ones clicking in that moment): to simply play. as this all’s been going on for a long time, I’ve amassed a hefty bunch of solo bits & pieces; I’ve chosen these 8 to begin releasing a wild herd of ’em.

These were recorded live, without overdubs.
Thanks much for stopping by!, I hope you enjoy this, and peace to you.

an Ambient/Electronic mix project | 79:07 | Part 1 of 3

This was designed and constructed around the July 3rd release of ‘Superscience‘, a single track, ambient/electronica mashup by Minamo. Using a water-cooled ambient aural saw, we shaved the composition into pieces & then reconstructed the project utilizing similar sounding noise & intro pieces to create a sound installation.

Longer-than-usual fade sequences helped to incorporate an organic “feel” to the mix; with assorted, subtle treatments (outtakes, snippets, elongated intros & excerptions) sprinkled here & there, as needed, to facilitate the segues.
We also found ourselves utilizing tracks from the studio’s vault we wouldn’t normally choose for a work-a-day ambient mix . . .

. . . all that to communicate the fact that this isn’t a “straight up” mix, but rather an experimental project; an assembly of sound.

Listen via Mixcloud

02 Minamo – Superscience: excerpts 1+2 (echo & overlap)

05 Futuregrapher – Steinbitur
06 Federico Durand – Un Pequeño Bosque de Lengas
……(A Small Forest of Lengas)
