How much time it is between you and me?, by perila

“Perila is making some of the most head-spinning ambient music out there right now.” — Pitchfork

Perila, the moniker of Berlin-based electronic musician Aleksandra Zakharenko, announces her debut album, How Much Time it is Between You and Me?, out June 25th on Smalltown Supersound, and today presents its lead single, “Fallin Into Space,” a track full of levitating synth and pulses of organic noise. With a sound world so specific and transportive, Zakharenko’s ambient music is filled with detail and movement akin to hauntological musique concrète touched by song.

Raised in St. Petersburg, Russia, Zakharenko moved to Berlin six years ago, finding her place almost immediately at Berlin Community Radio. Regular work with expressionistic field recordings and electronic sound research eventually led Zakharenko to develop her own podcast series, WET (Weird Erotic Tension), combining her evocative, atmospheric music with erotic spoken word poetry. After a handful of early cassette releases as Perila — a project name originally used for her BCR show — Zakharenko has arrived at Smalltown Supersound for her debut full-length, a self-described “immersive experience into self” viewed through a “silence prism” where everyday sounds usually ignored felt amplified.

‘Fallin Into Space’ is a track about grounding yourself in new places, accepting the surroundings, and opening up to what comes,” explains Zakharenko. “It’s about slowing down and being conscious about what and how your body is in that space. Many new things come to attention when you slow down and observe.”

Signal to Noise, by Tapes & Topagraphies

Gorgeous at every turn, the compositions found here are sparse, beautifully constructed, careful, and emotive… a masterful work, moving from cinematic moments to spare elegance that envelops the listener in contemplative ease… a sensitivity to sound and texture that creates thought worlds that inspire the imagination.
-somewherecold

Awash in gauzy layers of melancholic drone and ornamented with wistful melodies, fine spun textures, and delicate field recordings, it is a beautiful immersion of sound and suspension of time that evokes warm nostalgia, tender emotion, and deep reflection. – Stationary Travels

What will become immediately clear to the listener upon diving into Signal to Noise is that it is seeking to evoke a sense of nostalgia. I would argue that it is a heavily melancholic, but nevertheless cherished, nostalgia. The sort of feeling you get walking back into some childhood home, but its now overgrown and rotten, or less intensely, a home that has new occupants with a new color paint and a new mailbox. The memories are still just as beautiful, but the time has passed, the world is a different place now. Each time I revisit Signal to Noise, these feelings present themselves freshly, as if I am experiencing it again for the first time. – this is darkness

The construction of sequenced sound is an intensely personal endeavor.

What will one commend to their ears? With what will one encompass their time?

Were the whole world of #ambient mine, I think I should have constructed it rather similarly to that which I already have.

Following up on his debut release with the ambient/post-classical label {int}erpret null, the Polish composer Grabek announces a new album to be released on 30th April 2021. Having intensified his creative output as of late, including a contribution to the {int}erpret null compilation ‘miniatures, vol. 1’ alongside artists such as Peter Broderick, B. Fleischmann, Arms and Sleepers, David Allred, and Aidan Baker, as well as a recent EP ‘variations on wieniawski’, Grabek will now shift focus to releasing a follow up to his stunning 2020 full-length album ‘imagine landscapes’. His new effort, composed of 10 songs and titled ‘Tiny Melodies’, is his most focused work yet and promises to captivate fans of neoclassical, modern-classical, and minimal electronic genres. Leading the way is the 1st single ‘Two’, showcasing Grabek’s skillful ability to combine electronic and acoustic instruments into a cohesive whole. Calming, gentle, and meditative, ‘Two’ is a mesmerizing initial taste of what’s to come.

Dreamers and Tides, by Federico Mosconi

The dreamer pushes himself beyond the boundaries of imagination, into places he only can visit. He will come back transfigured, taking along his dream come true and sharing it with those who love him.

His trip is like a tide that comes back a little bit different every time and brings something new to those who could wait for it.

In each track of the album you can find two different souls, one is physical and the other one is ethereal, the dreamer and the dream. They move together and power each other taking the listener to their world.

Nobody knows if that world really exists but someone is living in it for a while.
