In October 1978, I made a seemingly inconsequential decision. It was a decision that I had been mulling over for a month or so. The question was “Should I buy the album with the grotesque red and blue face, or not?” The album was In the Court of the Crimson King and the decision was made that much harder by the fact that I had never heard any of King Crimson’s music, and by the complete ignorance of the group’s music by radio stations and the contemporary music press at that time.
